PETITION TO THE METROPOLITAN KING COUNTY COUNCIL REGARDING CLOSING FLIGHT OPERATIONS AT KING COUNTY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (BOEING FIELD) AT NIGHT

WHEREAS King County owns and manages the King County International Airport (Also known as Boeing Field), an urban airport surrounded by residential communities and

WHEREAS many King County residential neighborhoods are under the flight path of air traffic into and out & King County International Airport, and these residents are having their a sleep disturbed repeatedly, and

WHEREAS the rate of noise complaints recorded by the King County International Airport Noise Office has more than doubled in the last year, and

WHEREAS nighttime operations have not been significantly reduced in spite of efforts by communities and the King County Council which passed Motion 95-749 on November 20, 1995 and there is no indication that these nighttime sleep disturbances will be reduced in the foreseeable future, and

WHEREAS many urban airports in the U. S. have imposed severe restrictions on nighttime operations to provide their communities with a noise-free environment during the normal sleep period,

THEREFORE, WE THE UNDERSIGNED, respectfully request that the Metropolitan King County Council, in the interest of promoting a a healthier environment for our communities, and because our residents have the right to a reasonably noise free environment for sleep, immediately take the necessary steps to close King County lnternational Airport (Boeing Field) to all aircraft operations at night, except in the case of emergencies and certain limited operations.
